Dear Chase Creek Blue Crab Swim Team Members and Future Members:
As many of you know, the Chase Creek Swim Club has a swim team (The Chase Creek Blue Crabs) which all members' children have the opportunity to join. We're happy to announce that the Greater Annapolis Swim League (GASL; http://swimgasl.org/), the swim league in which we participate, voted last week to move forward with having a 2021 swim team season going under the assumption that COVID restrictions will allow for it. Since the 2020 summer swim team season was cancelled due to COVID, we're especially excited to get our Blue Crabs back in the water this summer!
The team has been coached by the FANTASTIC Jill Springer for the past several years, and we're excited to announce that Jill will be returning as our head coach this upcoming summer. Jill is an amazing woman and coach and is greatly looking forward to coaching the Blue Crabs again this summer. Swim Team is a wonderful way for children to exercise and participate in fun competitions (meets) with both personal and team goals! In addition to the children's swim team, Jill coaches the Masters Swim Team for any adults who want to improve your swimming form! More details to come on that.
Due to the quickly changing circumstances of COVID, there are still several unknowns as to how the swim team practices and meets will take place. A COVID Safety Committee has been formed within GASL, and the committee is currently working on a large scale COVID safety protocol to cover practices and meets within our league. As of now, there's a significant chance that the swim meets this summer will take virtually as opposed to dual in-person meets. This is not 100% definite and another GASL vote as the summer gets closer will determine the format of the meets based on current COVID restrictions and safety concerns.
A virtual meet entails each team swimming in their own pool against fellow teammates within their age group. The only difference is that the swimmers from opposing teams won't be swimming against each other in the same pool. The swimmers' event times will be "paired" against the competing teams' times for each age group and gender. The results will appear as they do for a typical meet. As of now, all teams should plan to participate in FOUR meets over the course of FIVE Saturdays. Each team will have one "bye" week. As of now, the first meet is scheduled to take place on June 19th. A meet is scheduled to take place on July 3rd (a vote passed to hold a meet on the Fourth of July weekend) unless that Saturday is our team's "bye" week. The next GASL meeting will take place on 3/18/21, and during this meeting another vote will take place at that time to finalize certain plans.
We are very excited about the upcoming swim season, and we will continue to keep everyone posted as we get more updates from our team's GASL rep, Suzanna Navarro-Monzo.
Warm regards,
The Chase Creek Pool Board
Hello to all of our current and future pool members!
We hope this email finds you healthy and starting to think about warmer days this summer! We recently had a board meeting on January 31st and wanted to share some important updates.
We have two new members of the extended volunteer team. Please welcome:
Swim Team Manager- Tim Libby
Associate Member Representative- Megan Rosenblatt
Tim will be responsible for leading our Chase Creek Blue Crabs this season! Not only did he grow up in Winchester but also was a Blue Crab himself and holds the 8&Under 25 free record! Additionally, a huge thank you to Sonya Williams who has dedicated countless hours these past few years to ensure our swim season was a success. Thank you! We are fortunate that Tim will have the assistance of Susan Hamilton to organize and prepare for meets. Thank you Susan for continuing to support the team. Lastly, our team has been fortunate to have Bob Sanderson representing Chase Creek as the GASL (Greater Annapolis Swim League) representative. Bob also serves on GASL's board, so this year, we have asked Suzanna Navarro-Monzo (a member of our board) to take on this responsibility. Thank you Suzanna for committing to this.
In addition to the swim team volunteers, we have a new Associate Member Representative this year. Please welcome Megan Rosenblatt who will represent those associate members and the insight/perspective they bring to our community. Another huge thank you to Kerry Petz who has served in this capacity for many years and not only brought valuable insights, but also supported the many projects and initiatives over the years for improvements.
We have a wonderful community of members! Without your commitment to the pool and willingness to volunteer- we wouldn't have this treasure to enjoy each summer.
Our next board meeting is March 4th. Your board is hard at work to outline the strategy for this season and will share more information in the coming weeks. We hope to post this season’s registration at the end of February, so please watch for updates on our website and via emails!
Many thanks to each of you for your support of our pool!
Sincerely,
Your Chase Creek Board
